game ranch

Monday, October 19, 2015

Zack had heard about Lazy 5 Ranch but had never made it there, and I enjoyed visiting the ranch a few years ago with friends. He was excited to find a similar place near us. We visited the Yellow River Game Ranch on a recent weekend. There are all different kinds of snacks there that you can buy to feed the animals; we chose an apple and peanuts.

My backpack is this one from Tradlands, made by Archival Clothing. I carry it just about every day, whether it's holding only my wallet, phone, and keys, or my camera, or clothes for barre.

Maybe one day we can have our own goats!

Check out this deer's tongue.

The donkeys gave us a good show when begging for food.

The foxes and coyote were some of my favorites to see, though the hardest to photograph.

It was neat to see so many different animals in one place. It's not quite as up close and personal as riding on a wagon inside the fence with the animals (like at Lazy 5), but we could take our time and give the animals different types of food. I would recommend visiting Yellow River Game Ranch, especially with young children.

Carolina Aero Club June 2015 fly in

Monday, June 22, 2015

We enjoyed a fly in at our home airport a couple of weekends ago. There was a crowd there and several airplanes flew in. My uncle made barbecue chicken and lots of other good food!

There was a flyover by a Cherokee.

We visited our planes. It's tough to fly in when it's at your home airport.

The most exciting thing we saw was this Quest Kodiak. Zack did a great job modeling the plane.

Actually, our friend Ben and his two children came to the fly in (not pictured). Holding his new baby was the most exciting part for me!

I think this was a Cub flying over.

It was neat to see how short the Kodiak took off, especially for such a big plane.

We enjoyed visiting with my grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin, old friends, and new friends.

thankful Thursday: bachelorette celebrations

Thursday, June 4, 2015

I've been begging my friends to come with me to pure barre for years. Turns out all I had to do was get married! This was my one special request for any bachelorette type celebrations--I would much rather go to barre than a bar. I didn't think it would actually happen, but these friends showed up and went through a challenging workout just because I asked them to!

I had a lot of fun celebrating this weekend with pure barre, a shower, and a dinner out with my small group pals.

My friends made some delicious food. My favorite shower detail (below) was this prayer tree. They each took a Bible verse from the tree and prayed that for me and Zack.

I'm thankful that my family and friends took the time to make last weekend so special.

And if you need a laugh today, here's a video of two men trying pure barre for the first time.

twin comanche flying with my men

Zack and I made a little hop to LHZ for gas a couple of days after he came home. We visited with his/dad's mechanic friends and just relaxed for a bit.

One of my favorite things about flying is that it takes my mind off of everything else. Flying an airplane uses up about 99% of my concentration, so I can't think about the wedding/moving/work etc. one bit. I used to love it because it took my mind off of boys. Then I fell in love with my flight instructor. Ha!

Dad did some instrument practice at CTZ and EYF. We were going to have lunch in Elizabethtown, but the car was gone.

That time I realized I'm marrying my dad . . .

I outfitted him in Randolph Engineering sunglasses and Collared Greens croakies and shirt

We went to LBT for lunch instead and got a tour of my dad's old stomping grounds.

Remember that time I wore chino shorts every day? That time is also now.

Usually with my dad and Zack, I have to sit in the back, but this time they let me fly!

He even let me use his fancy headset! That one little leg wore me out. These guys are so much better at flying than I am.

I had a great time escaping it all and getting up in the air! I'm hoping we have more time to do this after the wedding!
